Propose your event

From music festivals to weddings to school fêtes and neighbourhood street parties, we support a range of local events on our streets, in our parks and on our bushlands.

Telling us a bit more about the event you are interested in helps us ensure that it will adhere to protocols, regulations and safety standards.

Neighbourhood street parties

A street party is great opportunity to get to know your neighbours and build community spirit. They are small casual neighbourhood events that may involve temporary road closures, catering, games, activities and music, but do not include installation of structures, food trucks or other contracted suppliers.

This proposal form will determine whether you will require an event permit or a neighbourhood street party permit.

How to propose your event

Step 1.Plan ahead

We offer a quick-response process.

The proposal form will indicate if a permit is required, what supporting materials you will need and what refundable bond may apply.

For most events, including street parties, your permit application must be submitted a minimum of 4 weeks before your proposed event start date.

Larger events require a minimum of 7-8 weeks, including those that:

  • expect 5000 or more attendees, or
  • plan to erect temporary structures larger than 100 m2, or
  • have a total set-up space larger then 500 m2, or
  • will have fireworks displays.

Step 2.Location

Understanding who owns your proposed site is important to know.

We own and manage most of the parks, reserves and bushland in Banyule, but not all. Some is managed by the Victorian Government. The same is also true for local streets.

If you are unsure about site ownership, contact an events officer on 9490 4222 or call Parks Victoria on 13 1963.

For neighbourhood street parties, consult VicRoads to determine who the road authority is.

Lastly, if you plan to hire one of our venues or halls for your event, you do not need propose an event here.

Step 3.Propose

We will start by asking high-level questions about the nature, location and elements of risk involved in your event.
