Saving water at facilities
Most of the water we consume is in maintenance of the sport grounds, recreation facilities and open spaces we provide. We have implemented a range of initiatives to constrain this water use.
We have successfully reduced water use and costs by:
- converting 40+ tennis court surfaces to reduce the need for watering
- replanting sports grounds with low water, warm season grasses
- converting bowling greens and croquet courts to low water surfaces
- upgrading irrigation infrastructure that can detect rain and 'switch off' on a number of sports grounds.
WaterMarc
Banyule WaterMarc is our $42 million aquatic and leisure centre. It includes a range of environmental and water sustainability measures, including water efficient toilets, showers and other fixtures.
There is a 200,000 litre rainwater tank used for toilet flushing and plant irrigation.
