Placing bins

  • Place bins near the kerb with wheels nearest to your home.
  • Leave 30cm between bins.
  • Keep bins clear from trees, poles or parked cars.
  • Make sure lids can close (do not overfill).
  • Place bins of the same type together (FOGO, recycling, rubbish).

If you live in a court, place bins out on a straight part of the court.

Filling bins

Understand what to put in the bin: dispose of waste the right way.

Bin sizes and features

Each household is supplied with 3 wheelie bins:

  • FOGO, green lid: 120-litre or optional 240-litre bin.
  • recycling, yellow lid: 240-litre bin
  • rubbish, red lid: 140-litre or optional 240-litre bin

You will be charged extra on your rates notice if you ask for a larger bin. Only Banyule rate payers can apply for a change in bin size.
Contact us on 9490 4222 if you would like to discuss a bin upgrade.

Bins belong to us: you must leave them behind if you move.

All the bins we collect and empty have serial numbers. They support our promise to improve our services and the efforts across Banyule to reduce waste to landfill. We recently introduced electronic versions of these serial numbers - like a barcode, to continue improving our waste collection service.
