You must apply for a permit if your construction will temporarily occupy a footpath, public laneway or road.
Understanding who manages your proposed hoarding area is important to know.
We manage most of the local streets in Banyule, but not all. Some are managed by the VicRoads.
If you are unsure about your area, contact a construction management officer on 9490 4222 or consult VicRoads on 13 11 71.
If VicRoads manages the road you will occupy, then you must first apply for a memorandum of authority.
This is not required if we manage the location.
Homeowners and business near your works must be notified of what road will be occupied and when.
You need to draft a letter with this information and distribute it in-person or by post at least 7 days before works start.
A detailed traffic management plan must be created by a qualified person.
The plan must be site-specific and include clear detail of how you propose to place, erect, dismantle and undertake construction.
Apply to occupy a road or footpath
We will assess your application, calculate what your occupation fee will be, and respond to your application in 5 working days.
The occupation fee is paid after you submit a permit application. We will contact you directly.
If you have any questions, contact the Construction Management team on 9490 4222 or at construction.management@banyule.vic.gov.au
If a road or laneway is occupied without a permit, then a $1000 infringement may be issued.
