Today, 16 February, we celebrated the official opening of For Change Café, a new social enterprise café located at our new Bellfield Community Hub.
Thanks to our partnership with For Change Co, the café will provide:
- 6 employment opportunities for local people
- 81 training and employment opportunities for local youths at risk of homelessness or facing barriers to work
- 45 work experience placements for students with intellectual disabilities attending the neighbouring Waratah Special Developmental School.
We were the first council to develop a social enterprise strategy, which supports an inclusive economy where social enterprises can start up, grow and thrive.
Mayor Cr Peter Castaldo said the café truly embodies Council's collective commitment to creating a better future for our community.
"I encourage everyone to support For Change Bellfield and other social enterprises like it," Mayor Castaldo said.
"These businesses are a critical part of building a more sustainable and equitable future, and they need our support to succeed."
"This café is a place where you can feel good about making a difference."
