Our bushland specialists, are part of our Bushland Management Unit. They protect and enhance Banyule’s bushland reserves which range from river, creek and wetland systems and other bushland reserves across the municipality. These areas function as important habitat for a range of indigenous plant and animal species which live within Banyule or migrate through it.
The Bushland Management Unit is supported by a large network of community conservation groups who volunteer their time to contribute towards the management of Banyule’s important conservation areas.
Volunteer events often take place over the weekend and may include activities such as:
- Flora species enrichment through seed collection, direct seeding and planting
- Weed control through hand weeding and spot burning
- Building of nest boxes for fauna
- Wild flower walks and spotlight walks
- Litter removal
Autumn is a time where environmental works such as planting and weed control start to increase.
