Waterbug blitz
Help us to record the waterbugs living in Fozzies Wetland at the Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary. Participants will catch waterbugs out of pre-collected samples, then identify and record species using the iNaturalist app.
Moth sheets and specialised lights will be put up in various locations to see what kinds of insects we can attract throughout the evening.
This event is part of the Great Southern Bioblitz, so please ensure you have iNaturalsit downloaded on your smartphone or tablet before attending and join the Nangak Tamboree Project on iNaturalist.
Using the app
Download the iNaturalist app to your device or set up an account on your computer.
Make observations and upload them to iNaturalist (you can make observations at any time, but only those over the weekend will count as part of the Bioblitz).
The information collected is highly useful for local biodiversity managers to see trends in our natural environment and help them plan for better future outcomes.
Don't worry if you can't identify the organism. Just make sure you get some good clear photos or sounds (iNaturalist uses artificial intelligence to suggest identifications and experts will be able to verify what your living thing is).
What to bring
Please ensure you have weather appropriate clothing, torch, closed toed shoes and drinking water.
Children are very welcome and encouraged to attend but must be under parent or guardian supervision at all times.
