The Boulevard Christmas lights 2024

Christmas lights on a private home

The Boulevard in Ivanhoe will glow once again this December with a display of lights, decorations and Christmas spirit. Thanks to the passion and dedication of residents along The Boulevard and surrounding streets, our community continues to enjoy this much loved, long-held tradition.

Although some resident decorations start appearing from early to mid-December, traffic management, toilets and some food stalls will be in place during the peak dates from Wednesday, 18 December to Tuesday, 24 December.

While in the spirit of Christmas, be sure to come to the annual Banyule Carols by Candlelight held in Greensborough on Saturday 14 December.

Planning your visit

Residents of The Boulevard in Ivanhoe go to great lengths to turn on magical lights displays. Decorated houses can be found at various sections of The Boulevard and Warncliffe Road, with decorated houses in some surrounding streets as well.

By car

This is the best way to experience the lights. The Boulevard is 1.8km long with decorated houses spread intermittently along its length.

Visitors can drive in both directions: you can drive in one direction, turn around, and drive back to enjoy the lights on the opposite side of the road.

You can enter The Boulevard from both Burke Road and Lower Heidelberg Road, as well as any side street. Please note: entry to the Boulevard from Burke Road is a left turn only, you cannot enter the Boulevard traveling south on Burke Road. However, we do highly recommend you enter The Boulevard from Burke Road if you are travelling north, as a majority of visitors come from the other direction (so traffic flow will be less congested). Refer to traffic map(PDF, 639KB).

From 18 to 24 December there will be a 20km speed limit along The Boulevard.

Walking The Boulevard

On foot, you can take your time viewing the displays, but pedestrians must stay on footpaths and are encouraged to walk in a one-way direction to ease congestion. Refer to traffic map(PDF, 639KB).

Wear appropriate footwear. The Boulevard is 1.8km long with decorated houses spread intermittently.

For your safety please stay behind the water-filled barriers, bollards and safety tape in place along sections of The Boulevard between the footpath and road.

From 18 to 24 December there will be 10 assisted crossing points along The Boulevard.

Arriving and parking

Light displays start appearing from early to mid-December. By the weekend prior to Christmas, most participating houses are on full display.

Please respect residential noise levels and leave the area by 11pm.

There is no carpark in the immediate area. Cars can be parked in surrounding residential streets, but parking signs and road rules must be followed.

Ensure that your vehicle is not parked over driveways, and leave at least 3 metres of road width clear for emergency vehicles and traffic.

Public transport

Ivanhoe Train Station is a 15-minute walk away. PTV buses 546 and 548 also run past The Boulevard.
