Our Art in Public Spaces Program invigorates our communal spaces and encourages you to think about our urban environment differently. Each year we support local artists to deliver a range of new and original, one-off, temporary site-specific art projects.

CHRYSALIS

by Lachlan Plain @ Kitchener Reserve, Ivanhoe June 2024

CHRYSALIS is an art installation incorporating light, projection and sound. 3 large illuminated chrysalides will hang from the trees in Kitchener Reserve after dark. Inside them you will see projections of flora, insect life and moments of transformation.

Secret Stories in the Night Garden

This is a multi-sensory public art experience that explored themes of secrets, belonging and acceptance through music, projections and performance. From beautiful soundscapes and outdoor lighting projections to live percussion and dance, Kitchener Reserve was activated with art like never before.

Up Close and Personal

In this installation, the beauty of local indigenous plants were showcased in macro imagery that exaggerated the forms and gave a new perspective to viewers, inspiring them to look again.

Camouflage

Camouflage was a site-specific at installation on the approach to Watsonia Train Station. The artwork aimed to highlight the relationship between the Simpson Army Barracks, the Watsonia community, the natural environment, and indigenous plant species.

Do I Belong Here?

This was a sound art installation by local artist who welcomed us into her inner dialogue and sang for us and she invited audience to connect with themselves and their inherent well-being.
