Banyule art collection

The Banyule Art Collection began in 1974 and includes over 500 works from across the country, including paintings, works on paper, jewellery, metalworks, ceramics, glass, textiles, sculpture and artists’ books.

We collect and selectively commission artworks that foster an understanding, enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts. It has become a community resource of increasing financial and cultural value.

The collection on show

You can view selected pieces through occasional exhibitions in Art Gallery 275 at the Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub as well as in our service centres. We have also a curated selection from our collection online.

Acquisitions

We have built our collection through purchases and donations, as well as through the commissioning of new works from the Banyule Award for Works on Paper, an acquisitive prize, with the winning and selected artworks added to our collection.

Our collection explained

The Banyule Art Collection Policy describes the management of our art collection, its growth through new acquisitions, conservation, research, interpretation and display.
