Finding your missing pet

Roaming cats

If your cat goes missing, you can record its details on our Lost and Found Register by calling during business hours on 9490 4222.

We recommend that you also check the Greensborough Cat Protection Society (GCPS).

After we pick them up

If we can identify a cat safely by its registration tag, we will try to bring it home first. If you are not home, they will be taken to the GCPS.

Wandering dogs

We respond to reports of dogs that are roaming or at large. Collected dogs will be taken to Nillumbik Regional Pound.

All impounded dogs must be collected within 8 days.

Registered dogs

If your dog is microchipped or wearing its Banyule registration tag, we will try to reunite it with you first, before we bring it to the pound.

If you are not home or are uncontactable, we will leave you a message advising that your dog has been taken to the pound. This information will include the pound’s location.

Unregistered dogs

Any dog not wearing a registration tag or without a microchip will be taken to the pound.

Collecting your dog

To collect your dog from the pound, you must:

  • contact Nillumbik Pound at 9433 3111 between 9am to 3pm weekdays to schedule an appointment time for collection
  • ensure your dog is registered
  • pay the impound fee payment at a Banyule customer service centre or by contacting us on 9490 4222
  • go to Nillumbik Pound at your scheduled appointment time of collection along with proof of ownership, valid registration and your receipt of fee payment.
