Watch Around Water: child supervision
Our leisure facilities are accredited in Life Saving Victoria's Watch Around Water (WAW) campaign, a safety program that educates parents and children on roles and responsibilities while visiting aquatic facilities. We follow their rules.
Safety rules by age group
Understand what the Victoria-wide WAW policies mean for you.
Ages 0-4
Children must:
- wear a pink wristband
- be accompanied into the centre and the water by a responsible adult aged 18 or older
- stay within arm’s reach of the adult during recreational play activities.
Responsible adults must:
- be in the water and within arm's reach at all time
- be able to respond and react immediately should something happen to your child
- be responsible for no more than 2 children age 0-4 at one time (bring another adult with you if you need).
Ages 5-9
Children must:
- wear a yellow wristband
- be accompanied into the centre and the water by a responsible adult aged 18 or older
- be constantly and actively supervised.
Responsible adults must:
- keep an active and clear line of vision on the child with no physical barriers
- remember the swimming ability of the child relative to a given lesson or activity.
