Sport travel grants

This program provides financial assistance to local individuals and teams participating in sporting activities. The total grant pool is $12,000.

Individual grants

  • We will fund 10% of total costs (travel, uniform and entry fees) but not to exceed $600.

Individual athletes living with disability

  • For individuals or teams travelling to participate in an all abilities program or competition amounts, we will fund 25% of total costs (travel, equipment required for travel, uniform and entry fees) but not to exceed $1500.

Team grants

  • State competition $250
  • National competition $350
  • International competition $500

Key dates

There are 4 applications rounds available in 2024:

  1. 1 January to 28 February
  2. 1 April to 31 May
  3. 18 July to 31 August
  4. 1 October to 30 November

Grant applications will be assessed during the first week after a round closes.

Applicants will be advised if they have been successful or not within 4 weeks of a round closing.

Eligibility

Individual applicants must be permanent residents of Banyule.

Team applicants must be affiliated with a club operating in Banyule.

Criteria

Applicants must:

  • have a letter of support and confirmation from their sporting club/school or association
  • apply as a team or individual
  • have proof of costs to be incurred, for example airfare, accommodation or entrance fees
  • not have received this grant within the previous 2 years
  • not be a school or church.

What we will not fund

  • Costs already spent (no reimbursements)
  • Membership fees
  • Lessons and training
  • Sporting equipment

Application

To apply:

  • read the guidelines and apply only if eligible
  • complete an application form online and provide all supporting documentation.

Assessment

Applications will be assessed in the first week after the grant round closes.

All applicants will receive notification of the outcome in writing within 4 weeks of the respective application closing date.

Grant agreement

Successful grant applicants will be required to sign a grant agreement that sets out conditions of the grant.

Acquittal

Within 6 months of the event/activity you must provide us with:

  • evidence that you participated in the event/activity
  • a short statement (no more than 250 words) about your experience
  • one image of the activity/event (we reserve the right to use this image for promotional purposes).

The acquittal needs to be submitted online.

Failure to acquit the grant satisfactorily may result in requests for grant money to be returned to us, and exclude the group from future grant rounds.

Accessibility

The grants process is open and accessible to everyone, including if:

  • you need a printed copy of the guidelines or a printed copy in large print;
  • you need to discuss these guidelines by phone;
  • you need the guidelines in a captioned video format;
  • you need to discuss the guidelines with us using the services of an Auslan interpreter;
