Banyule Community Fund grants

The Banyule Community Fund (BCF) is our new non-profit fund established in partnership with the Australian Communities Foundation.

It provides additional funding to local charities and non-profits that need support and enables businesses to donate to causes that are meaningful to them.

Charities and non-profits can apply for up to $4,000.

You must read the full guidelines(PDF, 309KB) and speak with a Council officer before submitting your application.

Key 2024 dates

  • Grant round opens on Monday 12 August at 9am.
  • Grant round closes at 11.59pm on Wednesday 11 September
  • Applications enter multi-stage assessment process from 12 September to 30 November
  • Outcomes are advised between 22-30 November
  • Presentation event for successful application will be held in February 2025 (tbc)
  • Acquittal of grants are due within 12 months of the outcome.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be a registered charity or a registered non-profit organisation for charitable purposes
  • have a deductible gift recipient 1 (DGR1) status (organisations that use funding for charitable works)
  • provide support, programs or services to Banyule residents (where the applicant is located outside of Banyule, our residents must be the main people who benefit)
  • align with one or more of the BCF priority areas.

Application

Applications must be submitted through Smarty Grants. Register and start a new application: you can save and return to your application at any time. Help with the application tool is also available.

Assessment

Grant applications will go through a multi-stage assessment process, including:

  • eligibility checks from the Australian Communities Foundation
  • assessment through the BCF assessment panel
  • final decision made by the BCF advisor.

There is a conflict of interest declaration that must be completed by all parties involved in assessing applications.

Acquittal

All grantees are required to complete the acquittal process, undertaken by the Australian Communities Foundation.

Accessibility

The grants process is open and accessible to everyone, including if:

  • you need a printed copy of the guidelines or a printed copy in large print;
  • you need to discuss these guidelines by phone;
  • you need the guidelines in a captioned video format;
  • you need to discuss the guidelines with us using the services of an Auslan interpreter;
  • your hearing or speech is impaired, you can call us through the National Relay Service on 133 677 (TTY) or 1300 555 727 on an ordinary handset and ask for 9490 4222;
  • you need a language interpreter please contact TIS National on 131 450 and ask to be connected to us on 9490 4222; or
  • you need a printed form and support to enter information into SmartyGrants please contact us for assistance.
