Enrolment in Council elections

Enrolment has closed to vote in the October 2024 elections. However, you can still enrol to vote for future elections.

There are 2 ways to vote in our Council election: as a State-enrolled voter or as a Council-enrolled voter.

If you already are a State-enrolled voter in Banyule, you are good to go with Banyule City Council elections: there is nothing more you need to do but vote by law on election day. You cannot enrol if you are already a State-enrolled or Council-enrolled voter in Banyule.

If you are not a State-enrolled voter, there are 3 ways you may be entitled to vote in Banyule City Council elections.

You own a property

If you own a property within Banyule and live elsewhere, or if you own and live in a Banyule property and you are not an Australian citizen, then you can enrol to vote.

  • Up to 2 owners per property can enrol to vote (1 vote each).
  • You will remain enrolled for the next and all future elections.
  • You can resign your enrolment for the property at any time.
  • You can enrol even if you are not an Australian citizen.

You rent a property

If you are a tenant and pay rates for a property in Banyule, then you can enrol to vote.

  • Up to 2 renters per property can enrol to vote (1 vote each).
  • You will only be enrolled for the next election (you must re-enrol for all elections thereafter).
  • You can resign your enrolment for the property at any time.
  • You can enrol even if you are not an Australian citizen.

On behalf of a corporation

Whether you own or rent the property, if you are the director or secretary of a company that pays rates, then you can vote.

  • You can enrol even if you are not an Australian citizen.
  • You only will be enrolled for the next election (you must re-enrol for all elections thereafter).
  • You must agree to being appointed the corporation's representative.
  • Only 1 person can apply to be the representative.

Check the VEC for an address within Banyule to see if you are already State-enrolled.
