Plenty River pedestrian bridge

Plenty River pedestrian bridge

What we are seeking

We are asking for a $200,000 Victorian Government investment from its 2024-2025 Budget to jointly fund the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the Plenty River in Greensborough.

What it will deliver

A separate pedestrian bridge will provide a continuous shared pedestrian/cycling path between the Greensborough and Montmorency stations as well as offer a safer option than the current pathway that has been proposed.

What you can do

To help us deliver this priority, you can write to our Lower House Member of Parliament for this electorate or any of our Upper House Members of Parliament for their commitment to deliver funding for this project.

Overview

The Victorian Government is currently delivering a new shared use path between Greensborough and Montmorency. The path travels along the south side of the railway line. The path is designed to make it easier and safer for people to walk and cycle around Banyule by providing direct access between suburbs.

Based on community feedback, we have identified the need for a pedestrian bridge across the Plenty River between Railway Road and the Plenty River Trail on the north side of the railway line.

The bridge will directly link pedestrians and cyclists with the existing Plenty River Trail and provide a safer route than currently proposed.

With no Victorian Government investment for the new bridge, it remains the missing link that inhibits direct access for pedestrians and cyclists into Greensborough from Briar Hill and the north east.

Why now?
Upgrades to the Hurstbridge Railway Line are currently underway. It is less costly and disruptive to undertake construction of the pedestrian bridge as part of these works.
