What we are seeking
We are asking for an investment of $13.6 million from the Victorian Government over 4 years to roll out an inclusive employment program for local residents in Melbourne's north who are facing barriers to employment.
What it will deliver
Funding of a program will result in:
- 77 placements per year (8 new placements and 3 transitional placements in each northern regions council), as well as an inclusive casual pool in each of the 7 councils.
- Employment of 7 dedicated program officers responsible for supporting participants and delivering the program in an integrated way within each of the 7 councils.
- Employment of a Banyule-based project manager to oversee the program implementation.
What you can do
To help us deliver this priority, you can write to our Lower House Member of Parliament for this electorate or any of our Upper House Members of Parliament for their commitment to deliver funding for this project.
Overview
The fist-of-its-kind in local government, our Inclusive Employment Program, was developed in 2018 to support local people experiencing barriers to employment with a 6-month job opportunity in a paid role tailored to their interests, goals, strengths and ability.
The program is part of our place-based response to tackling unemployment. It has contributed to 167 job outcomes over 5 years. The participants are residents who face barriers to work.
We intend to roll the program out across all 7 councils in Melbourne’s north and give residents outside of Banyule the opportunity to access similar working opportunities.
Participants will gain local government experience and build their work skills and, in many cases, will find ongoing employment at the completion of the program.
